Is Media Mail Gone?

I had a CD order last night to California and one today to New York. Suddenly Media Mail was not an option for either one and I'm forced to mail First Class for $4.20. Did USPS or Amazon eliminate Media Mail?

Media mail is not gone. It is just the way Amazon works in conjunction with USPS. If Amazon sees there may be a delivery time problem, they simply eliminate offering the shipping method.

We had the same issue yesterday!! And I'm not so certain the responses you got is correct. The order came in on Sunday for a LP using standard shipping and when we went to purchase Media Mail shipping on Monday, media mail was not showing up for us either. Delivery due date was about 20 days out so it should not be based on anything having to do with shipping time because Media Mail is usually anywhere between 3 and 9 days.

We did end up purchasing Media Mail through another source however we're not a fan of doing this since we are not covered with Amazon fir any INR claims. I have to assume either there's a glitch or that the lp was not originally or accurately listed as media.

Type of shipping can change depending on when it needs to be delivered, size of the package, how far it has to travel and sometimes it changes if it is going to a small, remote town. With Monday being a holiday where the post office closed, mail may slow down a bit this week and only leave us with the quicker options.

For anything under a lb, (cut off for first class), we have found first class rates are about the same if not less than media mail.

Something just changed dramatically, and I don't think it has to do with delivery times. I have been selling books on here for 13 years, and Media Mail has always been available, unless the address is undeliverable by USPS. All of a sudden on about Friday of last week, Media Mail disappeared for almost all of our orders, and we have been either going up to First Class (extra cost) or processing the orders at the USPO counter, which costs a lot of extra time, and tracking is not automatically added. So far I have been hoping the problem solves itself, but that is beginning to not look promising. I think I will adjust my handling time, just in case.

No what they are doing is making you use PRIORITY so it gets there on time and they look good . In the mean time you loose money . Mail it from the USPS center. { is unbelievable }

Yes, like Taplack, we found that it let some things go by Media Mail and others gave us only Priority options. Didn't seem to be a factor of destination distance, item cost, or weight. Seemed completely random. Wondering if it has to do with the holiday?

I send books and even orders as of today are still being affected...though a couple here and there did offer Media Mail today. For those that are being affected, are any of you still in "Your account is at risk of deactivation" for the Inform Consumer Act? I am even though Ive submitted everything, I just find it coincidental that it started once I got this alert.
