Ownership of goods

As a seller on Amazon I have some questions related to ownership of products issue:

Ownership Transfer to Amazon: At what stage of the fulfillment process does ownership of our products transition to Amazon? Is it when the products are received at an Amazon fulfillment center, when an order is placed, or at another specific point?

Ownership Transfer to the Customer: When does ownership of the products shift to the customer who places an order on Amazon? Is it upon order confirmation, shipment, or delivery?

Documentation and Proof: Are there any documentation or policies that clarify the moment of ownership transfer for products listed and sold on Amazon?

Hi,

I am answering your questions basis my experience and learnings.

1. Ownership transfer to Customer - it is definitely upon Delivery. Until the item reaches the buyer, it is considered in possession/responsibility of the seller and transaction/liability is completed only upon delivery.

2. Ownership transfer to Amazon - If you are a seller using Seller Central (Not a Vendor using Vendor Central), Amazon is only providing storage, fulfillment, delivery and returns as a service.

Amazon will charge you for each of these services on a per item/order basis. Hence, there is no question of Amazon taking ownership and responsibility for your inventory/stock.

You stock is eligible for removal anytime you wish. Amazon may only compensate you if the items are damaged while in possession/handled by them - as per their policies for the category of items in question.

Think of FBA - as any warehouse where you are renting some space and their delivery team as a courier you pay for delivery.

Amazon never accepts/assumes ownership of stock and is only responsible for facilitating delivery to the buyer.
