Seeking Guidance on Sharing Email Address with a Buyer
Hi everyone,
I’m seeking some advice regarding a situation I encountered with a buyer. The buyer mistakenly returned the wrong item to us, and now they need to send a return shipping label so we can ship the incorrect item back to Amazon.
The buyer is having trouble using Amazon’s messaging system to attach the label and has requested to email it directly to us. I understand that Amazon’s Communication Guidelines advise against sharing email addresses, but in this case, it seems like the only way to resolve the issue efficiently.
Does anyone know if it’s acceptable to share our email address with the buyer under these circumstances, or would doing so put our account at risk of being flagged or penalized? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance for your help.

I do not know with 100% accuracy, BUT Amazon could look at that as a way to direct business away from the site. It's a bit confusing since you say that you will need to send the incorrect item to AMAZON and not to the 'buyer.'
The simple solution is to have them return the correct item to you and enclose the label for the return inside with the item!
OR, was this an FBA item and you got the incorrect return when you did a recall from Amazon?

It is best that you don't communicate with this buyer outside of the buyer/seller messaging system. If you will provide the related Order number, I will be able to get more information in order to best provide guidance.

Why not just respond to their email? I hope this isn't a buyer I had to deal with. I got the wrong item back from a return using the return shipping I paid for. That's not real uncommon. But, the email trail after was long and exhausting. Several emails a day for a week or two regarding this issue. In the end, I never got the real item back again. The bottom line was they wanted their item returned to them and didn't want to pay return postage. I sent them a new label for my item, but for some reason they had no intention of returning it. The item they sent to me was a used tube of cream that really wasn't worth the postage it would need to be returned. I really think that they wanted to keep the item I sent, but not pay for it.

This is raising red flags to me.
For example what is stopping the customer from doing this:
1) Requests return
2) Returns incorrect item
3) After being informed of the mistake the buyer agrees to have the incorrect item send back to them and they will even provide you with a return label
4) They claim they are having trouble attaching the label on the AMZ system and request your direct email.
5) You comply and send back the incorrect item.
6) The "buyer" then files an AtoZ claim because they were not refunded for their return and you have no proof of anything so AMZ will approve the AtoZ claim.
Maybe I'm just a conspiracy theorist but I know Scammers are pretty clever sometimes.

Amazon will just let the buyer get a full refund and assume you are the scammer. That’s my guess on the outcome.

If it were me, I would take 5 min and contact amazon through the chat and ask them what to do. That way if Sh-- rolls down hill, you have a record that you attempted to let amazon resolve the issue. That is the safest way IMO.
