Create a shipping plan in bulk

You can create a bulk shipping plan using a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. Save your plan in a tab-delimited .txt format and upload the file to Seller Central. You can also update an existing bulk shipping plan.

Download the template to begin creating your shipping plan. If you have already uploaded a shipping plan and want to update it, use the Update Shipping Plan template.

Important: You must first create the listings for the products that you want to include in your shipping plan. For more information, see Managing FBA Inventory.

The templates

The shipping plan and update shipping plan templates have six tabs:

  • Instructions provides directions for using the template.
  • Data Definitions provides an explanation for each column in the template.
  • Create Plan Example provides examples for shipping individual products.
  • Create Plan Template provides a blank spreadsheet for shipping individual products.
  • Case Quantity Example provides examples for shipping case-packed products.
  • Case Quantity Template provides a blank spreadsheet for shipping case-packed products.

Tip: Create a plan that includes only one product to ensure that you've filled out the spreadsheet correctly and are able to upload it.

The product is included in your shipping plan and can be shipped to Amazon, but the listing must be converted to Fulfilled by Amazonfor it to be available for sale using FBA. More information about creating shipping plans

The following are the requirements for using the Create Shipping Plan Template:

  • You must specify a valid address that the shipment will be sent from.
  • Merchant SKUs that are specified must already be created, and can either have a Merchant-fulfilled or Amazon-fulfilled listing against them.
  • Each Merchant SKU can only be specified once.

Using your Shipping Plan Template Workbook

  1. Open the Shipping Plan Template Workbook. The template contains four tabs:
    • Instructions: This tab provides directions that you can print for your reference. You can also follow these instructions while using the template.
    • Data Definitions: This tab provides an explanation for each column in the Shipping Plan Template. You can review the definitions or print them, so that you can refer to them as you examine your template.
    • Example: This tab provides sample data for each column in the Shipping Plan Template.
    • Create Shipping Plan: This tab provides a blank worksheet to create your file for submitting a shipping plan request.
  2. Click the Create Shipping Plan tab to view the template you will follow to create fulfilment requests for Amazon to ship your products. The column headers which are in bold are required fields. To ensure that your request gets uploaded properly, you must complete all required fields. If you are not providing data for a particular field, leave that field blank (do not fill it with N/A or something similar). See the Example tab for an example upload. In order to avoid including invalid information in your request, do not work on your own requests within the Example worksheet. If you would find it helpful, feel free to add color, bold, borders, and other formatting (not additional text) to the Shipping Plan Template. Such formatting will not be exported to the text file for uploading and will not interfere with processing.
  3. Save your file as tab delimited .txt file format and upload it on the Upload Shipping Plan File page. We recommend keeping the file for future reference.
Note: The first time you upload the Shipping Plan Request, we recommend uploading a single item for testing purposes. After a successful upload, you can proceed to create additional requests.
  4. After submitting the flat file, refresh the page to see the file processing status. Once processing is complete, you will be able to download a file processing report, which will give you information, errors or warnings. Some of the messages you might see and what they mean are mentioned below:
    • Invalid Merchant SKU: If the Merchant SKU could not be found, then it will not be processed or added to your shipment.
    • Invalid Fulfillment Center Selected: If you are not eligible to send inventory to the destination fulfillment center entered by you.
    • Item added to shipment, but needs to be converted to Fulfillment by Amazon: The Merchant SKU was associated with a seller-fulfilled listing. It was added to the shipment so you can send your items in, but you will need to convert the item to Amazon-fulfilled for it to be available for sale.
