Return policies

Amazon sellers are required to have return policies that are at least as favorable as the Amazon return policies. You can see your applicable returns policies on your Returns tab.

The Return Settings page allows you to adjust your settings for all stores that you sell in, for each region. You can identify the store for the settings you would like to edit under the Marketplace column. To change your existing return settings select for the drop down and, click Save settings to save the changes.

Return Authorization

You have the option of automatically authorizing return requests. If you enable this feature, return requests will be authorized automatically and an email will be sent to the buyer containing a link to the Return Merchandise Authorisation (RMA). Return requests that are out-of-policy or category-exempt will be sent to you for manual authorization. You will still be required to issue refunds as appropriate once you receive the return.

For stores where automated return authorization is not mandatory, you will have the option to manually authorize incoming return requests.

Set your default return request authorization rules using one of the following options:

  • In Policy (Amazon): All return requests that meet Amazon’s return policies will be automatically authorized.
  • Manual (Seller): You will manually authorize all return requests.

Automate the authorization of return requests

All return requests can be manually authorized or closed through the Manage Returns section of your seller account. This is the default setting.

Depending on your account, you may have the option of automatically authorizing return requests. You will still be required to issue refunds as appropriate once you receive the return.

Set your default return request authorization rules using one of the following options:

  • Enrolled: You will see an ‘Enrolled’ icon if you are enrolled in the prepaid return label program
  • Enroll: In store where the Amazon Prepaid Return Label program is available and you are currently not enrolled, you will have the option to self-serve opt-in. To opt-in, click ‘Enroll’.

In stores where APRL is not yet available, you will see a grey ‘Enroll’ icon.

Label type

You will have the option to provide a prepaid returns label for all your returns or choose Amazon to provide an unpaid mailing label.

  • Seller Prepaid: Provide a seller prepaid return label
  • Unpaid Label: Amazon to provide an unpaid mailing label

Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA)

  • Amazon: Amazon to generate a Return Merchandise Authorization number.
  • Seller: You will provide a Return Merchandise Authorization number.

Labels for exempt items

For returns of seller-fulfilled SKUs that are exempt from the Prepaid Return Label program (), you will have the option to upload a merchant-paid label or have Amazon issue an unpaid label on your behalf.

  • Seller Prepaid: You will provide buyers with a seller prepaid return label for the items exempt from the Prepaid Return Label program.
  • Unpaid Label: Amazon will provide an unpaid mailing label for the items exempt from the Prepaid Return Label program.
